Guardians of the Canopy

Guardians of the Canopy honours the endangered Forest Red-tailed Black Cockatoo and the native food sources that sustain them, including gum nuts, banksia and flowering eucalyptus. Wheel-thrown in Southern Ice porcelain, the vessel is intricately carved using sgraffito, underglaze and native seed pod impressions. A male and female cockatoo perch among bold red blooms and textural banksia seed pods, their glossy black feathers standing in sharp relief against the matte, carved surface of the vessel. These works serve as both tribute and quiet advocacy, acknowledging resilience while drawing attention to the fragility of WA’s diminishing bushland ecosystems.
