Light Embrace was conceived during an artist residency at Mount Flora. Working from plein air studies, I sought to capture the lingering traces of afternoon light as it moved across the landscape, illuminating the coastal bush in spring. Pinks, oranges, and warm yellows emerge through the shifting light, framing the Mount Flora lookout within the scene.
The painting was executed quickly, as this approach allows me to retain the immediacy of the moment and preserve spontaneity and affect. As a result, the work moves through quick, intuitive responses, reflecting both the urgency and the intensity, while retaining a contemplation of the experience.
