Sophia Lark‘s art attempts to reconcile her environmental activism with her creative skills and voice. She challenges the viewers perception of nature and its importance and their relationship with it. Soon We’ll be Gone (From Above) is a photo of the land artwork Soon We’ll Be Gone created in September 2025 in Settlers Common Bushland in Armadale. Sophia used river sand, charcoal, banksia, pumice, grass tree, driftwood, marriage nuts and found branches. It was a call to arms. The Black Cockatoos are starving. Pushed from their forest habitats in search of food. Record numbers are being found dead from starvation or dehydration. If the Northern Jarrah forests are not protected soon, just like the artwork, these beautiful birds will be gone. This photo was taken approximtely 6 weeks after the original artwork’s creation by local resident Jack Dorey.
