Still Life With Mirror (Yellow Window)

This painted paper collage depicts a still life with a mirror. Because of the mirror, it’s quite a complicated scene, and in this work I try to both simplify it and complicate it further. There’s the still life (draped fabric and objects on the table) and the mirror-space: the reflected still life, my reflection, and the room beyond with its yellow window. All these spaces are flattened and unified using shapes that connect from one to the other. But simultaneously, these connections suggest other ways of reading the space, allowing things to shift and open up.
