Fortescue, Donna - Where Are All The Trees

Where Are All the Trees?

Donna Fortescue
560 x 330 x 730

This sculpture of trees stands as a quiet monument to what is no longer there. Forged from industrial materials – steel and welded seams. It reflects the very forces that contribute to the disappearance of natural vegetation. The trees are skeletal and enduring yet stripped of their organic softness. They do not decay; they remain, rigid and unyielding, like the built environments that replace living landscapes.

The work responds to the accelerating expansion of housing developments and symbolises how our environments are reshaped, replaced and transformed, leaving only memories. The artist is asking us to pause and consider the cost of progress.
