Adam Hisham Ismail – We Never Left the Garden
|We Never Left The Garden, is the first photo-document of a series that explores ‘the garden’ as a platform for recreation, play and a myriad of other curious, miscellaneous human behaviours. This piece explores the sentient relationship to the natural and urban environments, reconstituting discarded materials to build tableaus (which are then photographed) in which characters act out intricate scenes.
Within this space, social mechanisms played out across the constructed ‘animal kingdom’ are placed under suspended animation. By examining concepts of pack mentality, insolation and shielding, Ismail’s work sits in an uneasy relationship with both the familiar and the strange, through attempting to map the nether-regions of our collective psycho-geographies.
