Angela Robertson-Buchanan – Return of the Yellow-Tails

Every two years a large flock of yellow-tail black cockatoos descend on Dolls Point to feast on the exotic pine cones. Non-native trees have become an important feeding ground due to native habitat clearance. As with other native wildlife, it is thought the 2020 bushfires impacted their populations.

This image is a composite from spending a week observing them flying amongst the pine trees and chewing up an old banksia tree. I felt the banksia tree looked charred and I couldn’t help but remember last year’s bushfires.
