Cathy Blanchflower – Eos
|I would describe my practice as organic abstract painting, focusing on the use of colour, movement, spatial effects and light. My current use of colour comes mostly from what I observe in the natural environment and photography is often used as a record of what I see in different locations.
I use the process of layering patterns or fields of colour – trying to achieve an ‘in-between space’ created by the reaction of each layer to the other. This space is intangible and unpredictable, only emerging when the layers are in balance with each other.
I find painting itself to be an attempt to translate lived experiences into a visual language, and to achieve harmony between oneself and the world.
