Tony Jones spent almost 50 years as a teacher of art, influencing hundreds of students. In 2008 he was named Citizen of the Year (WA) and in 2009 received an Order of Australia Medal. A regular exhibitor, and since the 1990’s has produced a raft of public artwork. Collections include the Art Gallery of WA, Janet Holmes à Court Collection, Artbank, Curtin University, Edith Cowan University and Queensland University.
This 2019 work is a result of his ongoing fascination with the subject of his 1999 public artwork CY O’Connor, installed in the water at North Coogee beach, commemorating the early demise of one of Western Australia’s most influential public engineers who was found dead in the water at the site.
