Daniel Argyle – Untitled

$550

This work is a recent example of my ongoing inquiry into where and how an artwork might find itself at the limits of painting. The specifics of this particular body of work, begun in 2015, involves reusing plastic food containers to cast a concrete form. The form is then painted using oil-based enamel.

For me, this body of work casts a shadow of anxiety over issues of sustainability and toxicity. Can an artwork’s value be exempted from relations of production? Where does its license or privilege end?

Perhaps colour marks a symbolic, alternative route. The colours of this specific work offers a sliver of positivity and hope amongst a darkness that hopefully doesn’t indicate an irreversible decline.
