The bold, beautiful colours and clear, laser sharp light of an Australian summer. Two galahs create a perfect right angle as they settle briefly on a gnarled old tree. The female has made the better choice of perch as she enjoys the scant shade afforded by her partner’s body. Light reflects up from the red dirt below and sings upon their plumage contrasting against an achingly blue sky.
In my work I focus on birds, particularly Australian birds. Each portrait aims to evoke a response from the observer beyond the appreciation of the subject as simply pretty or interesting but as a complex and real character in its own right. Often my portraits will create eye contact with the observer and this can leave a strong impression of connection. I love to work with strong light and colour and luckily for me, there is plenty of that to be found here in this beautiful land.
