Lesley Meaney – Transition

$5500

In 1969, shortly after completing five years of training in England, I migrated to Australia as a young artist and art teacher. That was 52 years ago! My immersion into the Australian landscape, of acknowledging its flora and fauna, has played a pivotal role in both my arts practice and my journey towards identifying as Australian. Like many other migrants to this country, I have brought memories and belongings from a life lived elsewhere.

This contraposition image, depicting two kangaroos resting on threadbare rugs – rugs that I brought with me from England. The image is a metaphor for my transition in becoming Australian.
