Matthew Wright – Habitat
This piece has ultimately landed on a theme of place. Whilst the image is based off the Brush Factory building in East Fremantle, I feel it presents more broadly than that; evoking a sense of the urban and suburban through its layers of gestural happenstance and incidental abstraction.
A ‘hollowing out’ of the image implies a sense of space where the action should be; a compositional non sequitur of sorts. Multifarious mark-making perhaps suggests somewhere lived-in. A human space is implied without being explicitly populated.
