Michelle Bourne – The Beauty of Death and Decay
|The purpose of this work is to imitate my impressions from the fleeting moments we have by exploring the relationships we have with memories collected from the past but can never experience again.
In the winter months of 2019 I began walking through Star Swamp Bushland Reserve in the early hours of the morning sometimes before sunrise or as the sun was rising.
On one of my walks I came across this beautiful crooked, entangled and decaying tree sinking into the swamp. An encyclopaedia of life, death and decay, but there was a beauty, strength and hope in this moment of time. I also witnessed the new growth and younger trees dancing and celebrating this proud decaying beauty.
