Naomi Grant – Twists and Turns
|Bushfires tore through the family property and areas of Girraween National Park QLD. What’s left is the aftermath of scarred trees ravaged by bushfire. Twists and Turns captures’ the scarred tree standing firm in the late setting sun.
I am a contemporary Indigenous Australian artist, a descendant of the Wiradjuri people of central New South Wales. I have resided in Perth for the past 43 years. I see myself as a visual master painter distilling the essence of the land and the moment in the minds’ eye. With a background in textile design I often relay the beauty, pattern and colour that I see in the environment. In the last 20 years my focus has been in acrylics and collage. I have developed a technique of using layers of coloured tissue paper under and over the painted surface.
