Reflection by Karen Prakhoff Rickman

Medium: Mohoprint – Oil and wax on rag paper on aluminium
Size: 770 x 770 x 50

The inspiration for Reflection came from my local haunt, Baigup Wetlands. The work evokes the sensation of looking into detritus laden, rippling water not knowing where the image ends and reality begins. It references the ephemeral, mutable nature of reflections and the act of reflecting – on all that we have and all that we stand to lose.

My art practice is process driven. The layered monoprint is integral to both the aesthetics and meaning of the work with each layer simultaneously creating and denying form – it speaks of memory, time, loss and renewal. The open nature of my work offers an imaginative and contemplative space.
