Shelley Cowper – Danger Lurks
|Every four weeks there is a full moon. Sometimes there are stars but often there is just a black void. There is nothing to be seen in the darkness, but there is the knowledge that danger may be lurking in the form of rocks, coral reefs, land mass, shallow water, ships, vessels, markers and floating objects.
The imagination obsesses; was that a light? Was that a boat? This work draws on personal experience of navigating Australian waters, while contemplating the collective unconscious of the shared experience of mariners throughout the ages.
