Sue Cross – Wet Rocks #8
|I have had a lifelong interest in art combined with natural history, consequently watercolour seemed to be the natural medium to combine these interests.
I am constantly intrigued by the interactions of water, pigment and paper, in a manner reminiscent of the forces in nature. Although I am most commonly a realist painter I strive to allow the paint to find its own way and keep its manipulation to a minimum.
I am attracted to rocks of many forms and I find the addition of water to that subject transformational. I enjoy creating an abstracted realism of the smaller vision within the bigger picture and aim to create an atmosphere and feeling of light form and texture, imbuing a sense of place and experience. This is a constantly evolving process and one of the things that typifies what I love most about the medium, it’s mastery is an ongoing challenge.
