Sunday at Fremantle Wharf by Phoebe Booth
Medium: Acrylic on layered plywood
Size: 370mm X 540mm X 32mm
I decided to explore painting with a layered 3-dimensional element to it. Thinking about space and depth, I chose the Fremantle wharf looking out into the ocean. I enjoyed exploring how each layer would not just be visually closer to the viewer but also physically. Using a laser cutter, I accurately cut each of the 12 layers from a sketch I had done. I kept the colours relatively flat as I wanted to emphasise each layer. I combined the ridged elements of the container ship with the flowing lines of the ocean and how they complimented each other. This piece of work stretched my ability but I’m excited with the result.
