| This painting expresses my interest in the intersections between the innocence of childhood, the fetishisation and symbolic power of guns. In the figure of a young boy, provocatively yielding the nerf gun towards the viewer, the many narratives of play, violence, vulnerability and confrontation are woven together.
Power is a contested space, as the subject reclaims the gaze, naked, armed, and hovering at the edges of awareness. |
