Trypillian Bottle by Luda Korczynskyj

Auction Expired

Ceramic, 28 x 9cm

Estimate $1,000 – $1,500

Inspired by a town in Ukraine called Trypillia. “Digs there have revealed an ancient civilisation going back 6000 years. It was a matriarchal society, which drew my attention. Pottery found at Trypillia has similar markings to Australian Aboriginal art. It is my tribute to an ancient culture, rooted  in my heritage. This bottle is purely for decorative purposes as it is low fired.”

Ceramic artist for over 40 years. Techniques developed from her Ukrainian background. Arrived in WA on the first boat of refugees from war-torn Europe in 1949. Finalist in the Black Swan Heritage Award in 2012. Last solo 2018 Gallows Gallery, Mosman Park, explored women’s strength in diversity. Works in collections such as WA Opera, councils and abroad.
